CrossFit by definition is a core strength and conditioning program. With so many different fitness regimens out there what makes CrossFit any different? The first is this, the fitness we seek to develop is broad, general and inclusive. Our specialty is not in specializing. We refer to this type of training as general physical preparedness, or GPP, in that we try to best prepare our athletes for any physical contingency. We believe that this is foundational, or core, to all other athletic or practical life needs.
CrossFit is unique as a core strength and conditioning program in that it is focused on developing the functional core, or axis, of the human body – namely the hips and trunk. When done right CrossFit training develops the athlete from the inside out – from core to extremity. This strengthening of the core is primarily done through functional natural movements. Functional movements are just that—functional, as they mimic the demands of everyday life.
In CrossFit these movements are programmed in a limitless array of combinations, constantly varying the load, time, repetition structures and intensity. Through this unique programing structure CrossFit has become the “sport of fitness.” We’ve learned that harnessing the natural camaraderie, competition, and fun of sport and game yields an intensity that cannot be matched by individualized programs. Our members become athletes as they develop competence throughout the ten general physical skills: cardio and respiratory endurance, stamina, strength, flexibility, power, speed, coordination, agility, balance and accuracy. CrossFit develops these skills through incorporating all types of training regimens and sport: interval training, gymnastics, plyometrics, calisthenics, olympic weightlifting, and powerlifting.
Yes! Of course it is. The beauty of CrossFit is that it is universally scalable, meaning that we can adapt any workout to fit your individual fitness level and specific goals. We are able to do this without compromising the integrity of the program or having to segregate class sessions. Whether you are a professional athlete, a competitive weekend warrior or a newly retired grandparent, CrossFit will radically transform your physical fitness, functionality and overall sense of well-being and health.
